06.25.14 Crystal Meth – yes that’s what today’s blog post is about.

I was very touched by the openness and accuracy of this young lady’s poem/story about her journey with Crystal Meth.   The far reaching effects of a meth user’s addiction are so deep that I believe everyone should be well aware of this horrible drug.  Not only do houses blow up but lives are destroyed when this drug and/or cooking of this drug enters your household or life.

This was written by a young girl *Micki) who was in jail for drug charges, and was addicted to meth. She wrote this while in jail. As you will soon read, she fully grasped the horrors of the drug, as she tells in this simple, yet profound poem. She was released from jail, but, true to her story, the drug owned her.

They found her dead not long after, with the needle still in her arm….

Please understand, this thing is worse than any of us realize…

My Name Is “Meth”
I destroy homes, I tear families apart, take your children, and that’s just the start.
I’m more costly than diamonds, more precious than gold,
The sorrow I bring is a sight to behold.
If you need me, remember I’m easily found,
I live all around you – in schools and in town.
I live with the rich; I live with the poor,
I live down the street, and maybe next door.
I’m made in a lab, but not like you think,
I can be made under the kitchen sink.
In your child’s closet, and even in the woods,
If this scares you to death, well it certainly should.
I have many names, but there’s one you know best,
I’m sure you’ve heard of me, my name is crystal meth.
My power is awesome; try me you’ll see,
But if you do, you may never break free.
Just try me once and I might let you go,
But try me twice, and I’ll own your soul.
When I possess you, you’ll steal and you’ll lie,
You do what you have to — just to get high.
The crimes you’ll commit for my narcotic charms
Will be worth the pleasure you’ll feel in your arms,
your lungs your nose.
You’ll lie to your mother; you’ll steal from your dad,
When you see their tears, you should feel sad.
But you’ll forget your morals and how you were raised,
I’ll be your conscience, I’ll teach you my ways.
I take kids from parents, and parents from kids,
I turn people from God, and separate friends.
I’ll take everything from you, your looks and your pride,
I’ll be with you always — right by your side.
You’ll give up everything – your family, your home,
Your friends, your money, then you’ll be alone.
I’ll take and take, till you have nothing more to give,
When I’m finished with you, you’ll be lucky to live.
If you try me be warned – this is no game,
If given the chance, I’ll drive you insane.
I’ll ravish your body, I’ll control your mind,
I’ll own you completely, your soul will be mine.
The nightmares I’ll give you while lying in bed,
The voices you’ll hear, from inside your head.
The sweats, the shakes, the visions you’ll see,
I want you to know, these are all gifts from me.
But then it’s too late, and you’ll know in your heart,
That you are mine, and we shall not part.
You’ll regret that you tried me, they always do,
But you came to me, not I to you.
You knew this would happen, many times you were told,
But you challenged my power, and chose to be bold.
You could have said no, and just walked away,
If you could live that day over, now what would you say?
I’ll be your master, you will be my slave,
I’ll even go with you, when you go to your grave.
Now that you have met me, what will you do?
Will you try me or not? It’s all up to you.
I can bring you more misery than words can tell,
Come take my hand, let me lead you to hell.

If you care enough, please forward this profound poem and share the deadly outcome of this drug that is killing our young kids young and old…
please look at my picture what it did to me!!!

When I was trying to find out about crystal meth I had to go to several different sources, so I hope having this here in one place might be helpful to someone.

Crystal meth signs and symptoms are often related to the drug’s impact on the body as a function of its stimulant nature. A single sign may not determine an addiction, but several signs seen over a short period of time can mean an addiction. Signs to look for to see if someone you love  or someone you know is using meth and hiding it from you include:

  • Dilated pupils
  • Weight loss
  • Eye twitching
  • Loss of appetite
  • Repetitious behavior
  • Hyperactivity

People with an addiction to methamphetamine can also stay up for days at a time followed by an extreme crash, where they sleep for long periods. They can also go into a manic phase, where they have compulsive and obsessive needs for cleaning. I believe that secretive activities and them freaking out when you show up at their house unexpectedly are big signs that need to be looked into. Those addicted to crystal meth for an extended period may show signs of extreme weight loss, seizures, rotted teeth and sores on the mouth and face.

Some of the ingredients commonly used in cooking meth include (but not limited to because I certainly don’t want to be providing a grocery list to some addict for what they need)

muriatic acid
Lye Ephedrine
decongestantpills like sudafed
battery acid
drain cleaner
lantern fuel

Here’s some images showing what meth looks like when it’s crystallized.  Sometimes they color it to disguise it but if its basic form looks like this don’t be fooled.

The most important thing is not to be in denial that someone you love or know could be doing this.  That doesn’t mean however that you should go on a witch hunt trying to find someone doing it.   If someone who knows them well shares their concerns about possible use PAY ATTENTION.   There’s probably a lot more information available but this is just one blog post and I’ve covered all I know.

I know this hasn’t been the most positive, inspiring blog I’ve ever written but I felt compelled to do so.  Next blog will be about our wonderful road trip to Walters Peach Town last Friday.

Roy started his job yesterday and now works 10 hours a day, 4 days a week for the next 3 months. We’ve been very busy lately and it doesn’t look like it’ll be slowing down any time soon.

I was very blessed to be able to go to choir practice last Sunday night for the first time in many years.  My asthma got so bad that I couldn’t sing any more.  I’m thinking that singing for just 3 months won’t do me in so I’m going for it.

It was a joy to sing with my friends in the choir during practice and I can’t wait to sing praises to our Lord Sunday morning when we sing Indescribable (Chris Tomlin’s song).  Some of the lyrics are:

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creation’s revealing Your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom

Please catch on right away that I will probably write about each and every special we sing while I’m home.  Christian music sung by a Christian choir is uncomparable in the message it shares and I love it with my whole heart just like I love God with my whole heart.

From crystal meth to God – wow!  He’s really the ONLY place to turn when you want to get away from drugs of any kind! Now that we’re switched to a little lighter note, I’ll close. 20

06.21.14 Sunday Worship – reblogged from Dr. Randy Davis’ blog “Sitting Under the Kudzu Vine”

Sunday Worship

In that time we gather for worship, it becomes a holy place where a holy people assemble and the court of our holy God descends among us. We are before the throne of God. Our congregational singing, our music made by singers and choirs, the words of scripture read and prayers offered and sermons preached are done to please God, for they are done in his court before his throne. When we worship God in his holy presence, there are no bad singers or readers or sermons. It is not about style or the kind of music we sing. It is all about God. We are there to glorify and honor God.

Worship is God’s great visitation. God comes upon us. In that kind of worship, the experience is transformative. We leave a little different than when we arrived because we have been in God’s presence. It is not an experience manufactured by the manipulations of music leaders or skillful pastors. It is what happens when we seek our holy God.

If you come to church looking entrainment, you probably will not find it. But if you come ready to be in God’s presence and to express your love and honor to him, not only will you find God, you will find your soul lifted up. You will find that God’s glory touches you like a pat on the head or a touch on the shoulder and the words, you did well, I’m glad you came, well done good and faithful servant. Then he sends us away filled with the Spirit who guides us as we live before him.

It is my great desire to see the members and guests of Trinity Baptist Church to come tomorrow and stand in God’s presence so that we may glorify and honor God together. It is my prayer that we will experience the power of his presence.

06.19.14 Frankenstein staples, Raising Canes and Godzilla!

Tuesday, June 17, 2014 – I’m sitting in the surgical waiting room while Roy is in surgery to remove some lumps from his chest and back. I just ate a delicious meal of North-Oaks_3-1024x640baked spaghetti casserole and green beans for only $3.20. Food at North Oaks Hospital is always very flavorful and plentiful. They took Roy back about an hour ago and I’ve been told he’s doing fine. We prayed before he went back and I know God is watching over him so there’s no need for me to sit here worrying.

The waiting room is oddly quiet and empty right now. Sitting here in the waiting room, it seems that my mind is very clear and I find myself thinking about Roy. We’ve had a lot of years of marriage, not all were great years but we didn’t gave up on our marriage and when we were wise enough to let God guide us we’ve been very happy.  I really don’t know what I would do without him. Even as recently as right before they took him back to surgery I couldn’t get internet on my phone and I needed him to figure it out for me, which of course he did! Not just for the technology loss I’d suffer but for so much more. He does all the driving of our RV, the hooking up and unhooking of the utilities each stop we make, all the RV maintenance and finds time to keep an eye on me, love me and do lots of special things for me all the time!

Roy’s surgery went well and now two days later I just took the bandages off all his bo bos.  He’s got lots of staples which will come out next Thursday.  I think Frankenstein would be proud of Dr. Liner’s handiwork with all the staples!

Roy got some great news this week. He got a call from Southeastern Louisiana University that they want to hire him for a temporary (at least 3 months) full time job doing what he use to do there before he retired! That is so perfect and a huge blessing for us. We will be here at least 3 months trying to sell our sticks and bricks house so we’ll have extra income to see us through that time. Since he’ll be recovering from surgery this week, unless they find out he committed some crime during our one day stay in South Dakota, he will start at Southeastern next week. I still have my work at home with RVillage and may take the extra alone time I’ll have to visit with friends and family, or I may be lazy and read! Probably some of both!

We spent a wonderful Father’s Day with our son Chip and his daughter Madisyn. Our church had Donuts for Dad which Roy, Chip and Madisyn went to. We all went to raising canesSunday School and then our Worship Service. It was a wonderful day in the House of the Lord and I am thankful for our Christian family to worship with. Chip treated park.

We’ve been able to spend a little time a couple of times this week with Madisyn.  When I go to pick her up from summer camp and see the surprise and joy on her face, it’s the best!  We asked if she wanted to go with us the the peach farm on Friday or go with her friends at camp to Tickfaw State Farm water park.  She chose the water park and then thought a bit and said “But you know I’ll be missing you all the whole day, so please bring me some peaches and nectarines”.  Guess she’s figured out how to get the best of two choices!

I went outside to pull weeds earlier and lasted about 15 minutes before my clothes were drenched – and I was in the shade.  Louisiana’s heat is one of the reasons we loved being able to live up north during the summer.  This year we can’t help being here but it reinforces in our minds that we’ll never be here for this awful heat in future years!!  The boiled crawfish, shrimp, peaches, strawberries, king cake, etc. etc. do help make up for the heat a bit!!!

We’ll let ya’ll know how our visit to Walter’s Peach Farm goes when we get home today!

06.13.14 Vacation Bible School – Trinity Baptist Church style!!!

child like faithOur home church, Trinity Baptist Church had Vacation Bible School this week and I was able to help  with the 1st and 2nd grade group for two days.  When we left to live on the road, most of the kids now in the 1st and 2nd grade class were still in Pre-K or Kindergarten so the last I remember of them was keeping them in the Nursery on Sunday morning or night.  Wow have they grown!!!

This years theme was SonTreasure Island. sontreasureisland  Today was their closing program where parents and grandparents were invited.   They performed four songs with hand motions that they learned this week and did great!  These little Wonders of God really made me happy to be home this week!

Shannon Tribble and Jeri Bankston lead VBS this week and did an outstanding job.  I’ve known these young ladies since they were very young Christian women and they have grown to be such strong mature Christian women.  Not old mature like me, just mature and still young!

I took some pictures throughout the week and want to share them with you now.  Our youth did a great job teaching the kids all the songs and hand motions and you’ll see them in the pictures too.

Helping with Vacation Bible School, working and having Madisyn spend the night Tuesday night rounds out the highlights of our week.  When Madisyn spent the night we watched ET again! and made a pallet on the floor like Chip and our oldest son did when they were little.  Chip and Madisyn will be going to church with us Sunday for Father’s Day.  I’m cooking afterwards and then we’re going to see a movie which is Chip’s Father’s Day gift to his dad Roy and I get to go too!!!

I’ve completed the project I was working on for RVillage.com and am now moving on to a different one.  This one is back in the advertising department where I started out, just doing different work now.  I really love this job that gives me some income while still having lots of free time to be retired in!

We’re hoping to take a road trip to Walters Peach Farm in Ellisville, Mississippi to get peaches next week or the following week.  We’ve eaten them before and they are by far the most delicious peaches we’ve ever had.

Ya’ll have a great weekend! and ya’ll come back now ya’ hear!!

06.11.14 Anyone ever tried to re-create something you liked on Pinterest????!!!!

I’ve tried re-creating many things from Pinterest and while all haven’t been epic fails, many have. The things we made for Madisyn’s fourth birthday party were all pretty much a major success so people do get it right sometimes!

06.08.14 John 3:16

john-3-16What a morning!  Our first morning Worship Service back at our home church Trinity Baptist Church since we returned last Saturday.

I slept until around 11 am last Sunday and didn’t go to church.  Do you know what kind of week I had?  A very difficult one.  Every thing that happened felt like it was pulling me deep into a depression that I constantly struggle fighting.

Many blogs are written by those dealing with depression but I usually choose to focus on what God’s done to lift me out of that, than the times I am not close to him and start sinking.  I don’t think I opened my Bible once last week when added to not being “preached to” as I put it just resulted in a very difficult week.  I prayed all the time but it was a lot of asking for things (even if for others) much more than giving Him Thanks for all He’s done for me and others.

People who make comments like “I can worship God just as good in the duck blinds, or in the fishing boat, or on the golf course as I can in church”, and any number of other comments I could quote here are just full of crud.  There is no way you can even attempt to live a Christian life, drawing closer to God like we should be, by skipping or missing going to church.

For years I used the excuse that I worked all day, cleaned and ran errands on Saturdays and needed Sunday morning to sleep late or I wouldn’t make it through the week.  I let that excuse fool myself and tried to convince others that I didn’t need to be in church.  I tell you that so you’ll know I have a strong basis to know what life outside of church fellowship is like compared to life being in church fellowship.

Being in church doesn’t do anything for you. You’re thinking, wait woman I thought you just said it does.  Occupying a pew at church on Sunday mornings, evenings, etc. is what doesn’t do anything for you.  What makes the difference is us having our mind and spirit in a place where you are truly Worshiping God through the songs, scriptures and sermons while we are gathered with others trying to grow in Christ, just like we are.  Christians who fellowship together make friends who have the same believes, morals and desire for God like they do. God wants and deserves ALL our Worship and Praise and our lives cannot be what they should be without a weekly, but preferably daily, time spent doing this.

Wow, that wasn’t what I started out writing when I opened my laptop just now but it’s what I needed to say I guess. When we open ourselves to the Lord he can use us to do anything he wants done.  If you want to know more about what it means to believe in Jesus Christ and accept him as your Lord and Savior, just ask.  I can only tell you what He’s done in my life and guide you to a pastor who can explain more but we can take the first step together!

Spot Traylor and Teddy Forrest blessed the congregation this morning with a duet singing about God’s Love.  The mixture of their voices does something to my heart that I can’t describe. We even sang “Jesus Love Me” as a congregation.  We’re having Vacation Bible School this week at Trinity and I’m going to be helping Monday and Friday with the 1st and 2nd grade class.  I will be guiding (perhaps herding!)  them from location to location and hope to get to know some of these little children that I’ve missed out on teaching in Sunday School.   If you have the opportunity to bring your children to a Vacation Bible School this summer, do it!  Many times it is the only exposure to Christianity some children experience which makes VBS one of the greatest things available for reaching them.

Roy and I moved from the driveway at our house to the yard on the other side of the house.  We are parked under one of our huge oak trees with our big mat laid downfront door wardline on the ground, our two rockers in place and our table ready for more crawfish!  We’re hooked up to a new 50 amp box Roy installed on the house and the water and sewer lines are hooked up so we’re quite happy with this arrangement.  We purchased a replacement front door for our sticks and bricks house this week and it’s sitting in the garage  waiting to be installed.  Just couldn’t pass up the one with Fleur-de-Lis on the glass!  We need to pressure wash the house and garage before the door is installed.  All that will happen when the house is empty but it’s nice to get something ready now for doing that work then. I’ll be pulling weeds late in the evenings which will take quite a while with all the gardens I have to pull weeds from!

Our first day home we were treated to a BBQ dinner at Chip’s house where he and Kim gave me my Mother’s Day present.  A beautiful Origami Owl necklace with pendant.  Inside the pendant was several little charms.  A stone for 2014-06-02_10-50-40_487my birthday, a stone for our Anniversary, one that said Blog (guess why??!!), a cross because I’m a Christian, a precious little camper for our RV life and a heart that says Grandma.  They float freely in the round pendant.  It is so special and I’ve never seen anything like it before.  They picked the perfect gift personalized just for me!!  Kim sells these so if  you like it or want to know more about the charms or anything about Origami Owl, let us know and she can contact you! What mom wouldn’t love such a personalized gift!!

The highlights for this past week were one night when Madisyn spent the night, one evening when Chip, Kim and the boys came to visit, a wonderful visit we had with my sister and brother in law at their house and a surprise visit at our RV from Marcus McMillian.  We haven’t seen Marcus since his wedding last year and had a great time royandmadisynteapartycatching up with him on his life at work, with his wife and their baby coming soon!  Madisyn ate boiled crawfish with us outside, had a tea party with us inside where she poured us a “spot” of tea, watched ET (which she’s never seen before and she absolutely loved) and then had a sleep over with us.  God definitely put all the goodness in our family into that little girl, she is such a joy to spend time with.  When the little twin boys came to visit it was such a kick to watch them play with each other, toddle and crawl, all around the place, giggling, cackling and saying all their little non-words (in stereo since there are two of them!)  When Madisyn and/or the boys leave we are exhausted but it’s a wonderful exhaustion that only a grandparent gets to experience.  We’ve gotten a little rest and work in between all that so I consider it a very successful week now that we’re spiritually refreshed from being in God’s house this morning!

Just saw the counter on the RVillage page go to 8000 members!  Keep up the great growth guys!8000

Ya’ll come back now, ya’ year!
