06.11.20 Psalm 91 Sign

Our son Chip and his wife Misty have a sign in their yard that says “Psalm 91”  We asked them about it and Misty got one for us. Yes, she’s a keeper!

Before seeing it in their yard I have to say I wasn’t very familiar with that chapter in the book of Psalms. I looked it up and, read it through. I realized how much this scripture talks to what Christ means to Christians and the strength and comfort we get from being His children.

This is the sign in our front yard!I figured some of ya’ll would see the signs around town so I’m sharing here what Psalm 91 says. I know that the New Living Translation is not preferred by those in the Bible know but it is easy for me to read and understand!

Psalm 91 New Living Translation (NLT)

1 Those who live in the shelter of the Most High
    will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
This I declare about the Lord:
He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;
    he is my God, and I trust him.
For he will rescue you from every trap
    and protect you from deadly disease.
He will cover you with his feathers.
    He will shelter you with his wings.
    His faithful promises are your armor and protection.
Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night,
    nor the arrow that flies in the day.
Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness,
    nor the disaster that strikes at midday.
Though a thousand fall at your side,
    though ten thousand are dying around you,
    these evils will not touch you.
Just open your eyes,
    and see how the wicked are punished.

If you make the Lord your refuge,
    if you make the Most High your shelter,
10 no evil will conquer you;
    no plague will come near your home.
11 For he will order his angels
    to protect you wherever you go.
12 They will hold you up with their hands
    so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.
13 You will trample upon lions and cobras;
    you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

14 The Lord says, “I will rescue those who love me.
    I will protect those who trust in my name.
15 When they call on me, I will answer;
    I will be with them in trouble.
    I will rescue and honor them.
16 I will reward them with a long life
    and give them my salvation.”

Ya’ll have a Blessed day!

05.24.20 A quiet thought, By Bro. Bob Adams

A quiet thought from Sunday, May 17th, By Bro. Bob Adams

Church is not like it used to be! Neither is shopping, sports, business, travel, medicine . . . the list is endless.

The ground beneath our feet has convulsed and turned the old paths into rubble. Everything has an odd feel to it.

It is tempting to long for yesterday to come again with its familiar routines and predictable ways.

It is a vain longing, an empty hope.

Tomorrow will not look like yesterday!

What shall we do in these changing days?

Let us not spend the time longing for the way it used to be, singing the screeching songs of a frightened world, looking for someone to blame, justifying arrogance and pride.

Rather, let us clear our throats and sing . . .

“In my church, Lord, be glorified! Be glorified!”
“In my home, Lord, be glorified! Be glorified!”
“In my work, Lord, be glorified! Be glorified!”
“In my travel . . . buying . . . resting . . . playing . . .!”

The goal of the Christian life is not to have things as we like them but to be transformed into the image of Jesus and bring Him joy – regardless of what life is like on the outside.

What a beautiful and freeing truth! Grace to you!

Thank you so much Bro. Adams for your weekly Godly words that you share with us. Each week they speak deeply to me. I hope you never stop!

Sunday morning at 10:45 am Trinity Baptist Church will broadcast our worship services on Facebook and the church’s website.

The newly updated online Worship Service at Trinity now includes so much that a lot of what I was sharing here is no longer needed. The names of those leading the various parts of the Worship Service are also now on the screen.

The feeling of togetherness joining with others during our Sunday online Worship Service is deeply comforting. I love that the same people we sit in a physical church with are all in their homes worshiping God at the same time!

04.11.20 Bring on the crawfish/shrimp soup!

On Sunday evenings our son Chip and his wife Misty meet with their “home church” group at one of the member’s homes. They have a regular Worship Service on Sunday mornings but the evening small group gathers for a time of fellowship, food, and Bible study.

The world is working on creating ways to stay together yet doing it while social distancing.

Chip and his wife Misty found a great way to feed the group members so they could all do home church together. Their home church group loves meeting together. This past Sunday Chip and Misty cooked three pots of his amazing crawfish soup and shrimp soup. They divided the soups into individual containers. Then they delivered them to each group member’s home. They all got on the website GoToMeeting at 5 pm and ate together while they fellowshipped and had their Bible Study online.

These are pictures of the cooking process. Roy and Chip have this father/son thing that when they or their wives cook something that is delicious they take photos and send them to each other. So sending pictures of food cooking is a pretty standard thing for them. This time I was really proud to see them cooking this and to learn that they delivered the delicious containers to each of the group member’s homes.

This is what gotomeeting looks like on their computer screen from a week or so ago.

I hope their home church group will be able to continue this tradition of eating together online while they fellowship and study God’s Holy Word.

Chip and Misty know that “Because He Lives” is my favorite hymn because its words speak to me deeply. They sent me this couple’s singing of the first and last verses and I want to share it with you here. If you haven’t figured it out that this song is where I got the name for this blog from! I hope you enjoy hearing this.

Ya’ll have a Blessed weekend!  Easter is Sunday. Families should not be gathering in large groups. Please, please don’t XXXX

04.07.20 A quiet thought, by Bro. Bob Adams

Today is the anniversary of the day I became a mama! My oldest son is now 41! Wasn’t he the cutest little boy!!! Happy Birthday!

A quiet thought, by Bro. Bob Adams

In the throes of this world-wide pandemic I see God everywhere!

Surely He is visible in the scriptures, prayers, and music of worship that come easily and richly to faithful believers.

However, He is also present beyond the words and music of our beautiful faith.
The crisis has birthed magnificent displays of the creative spirit: Stories. Jokes. Memes. Poems. Music. Pictures. These sometimes shake us with laughter and sometimes melt us in sorrow, but it is all a fresh-born expression of sacred peoples’ minds and hearts.

The source of such human creativity must be God Himself, the Eternal Creator! God is also glimpsed in every gloved hand and masked face.

He is found in the six feet between people standing in lines to get supplies. All these shout, “I will protect my loved ones, and myself, and even you – the stranger.”

Surely this protective spirit has its roots in God who hovers over us as a mother hen covers her chicks. Look out and see all the selfless acts of service on display around us.

The truckers driving long, lonely miles.

The policeman risking his life to guard our streets and cities.

The checkout clerk spending the day close to endless faces with panting breaths.

Government leaders carry the suffocating burden of making wide-ranging life and death decisions.

Every health care worker that rises day after day and night after night to wade into the middle of a vast cauldron of suffering people is an expression of God’s own unselfish sacrifice for us.

On and on and on . . . Hallelujah!

Thank you Bro. Bob! We miss you and Ms. Janice.

HIS EYE IS ON THE SPARROW

Why should I feel discouraged?
Why should the shadows come?
Why should my heart be lonely
and long for heaven and home,
when Jesus is my portion?
My constant friend is he:
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me;
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

I sing because I’m happy, (I’m happy)
I sing because I’m free, (I’m free)
for his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

“Let not your heart be troubled,”
his tender word I hear,
and resting on his goodness,
I lose my doubts and fears;
though by the path he leadeth
but one step I may see:
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me;
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
for his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

Whenever I am tempted,
whenever clouds arise,
when song gives place to sighing,
when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to him;
from care he sets me free:
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me;
his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
for his eye is on the sparrow,
and I know He watches me.

HIS MERCY IS MORE

Praise the Lord
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness
New every morn’
Our sins they are many
His mercy is more

What love could remember
No wrongs we have done
Omniscient all-knowing
He counts not their sum
Thrown into a sea
Without bottom or shore
Our sins they are many
His mercy is more

Praise the Lord
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness
New every morn’
Our sins they are many
His mercy is more

What patience would wait
As we constantly roam
What Father so tender
Is calling us home
He welcomes the weakest
The vilest the poor
Our sins they are many
His mercy is more

Praise the Lord
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness
New every morn’
Our sins they are many
His mercy is more

What riches of kindness
He lavished on us
His blood was the payment
His life was the cost
We stood ‘neath a debt
We could never afford
Our sins they are many
His mercy is more

Praise the Lord
His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness
New every morn’
Our sins they are many
His mercy is more

Our sins they are many
His mercy is more

INVITATION HYMN

TURN YOUR EYES UPON JESUS

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see?
There’s light for a look at the Savior,
And life more abundant and free!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

2 Through death into life everlasting
He passed, and we follow Him there;
Over us sin no more hath dominion-
For more than conq’rors we are!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

3 His word shall not fail you – He promised;
Believe Him, and all will be well.
Then go to a world that is dying,
His perfect salvation to tell!

Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in His wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace.

We look forward to Worshiping together again with you all next Sunday! May God Bless all of you!
