04.26.16 Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone), Traylor Trio singing, Crawfish $1.99 a pound, Eating crawfish while watching TV outside!

Tuesday, April 26, 2016,  That is probably the longest title I’ve ever given a blog post, but it will be a shorter than usual blog posts!!

We attended church at our home church Trinity Baptist Church on Sunday and were treated to three special things.  First the choir sang Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) amazingly, here is a link to Christ Tomlin singing it.

Chris Tomlin is the writer of the song and while his version is great I absolutely loved the Choir singing it this morning.  Such a true and mighty witness!   Chris, in his version, provides a lot of the backstory to the song Amazing Grace as well as some extra verses.  I highly recommend listening to the You Tube video!  It’s long but so worth it!

Then the Traylor Trio (better known by Trinity folks as Spot, Ashley and Leanna) sang “There is a Fountain” and that made me so thankful that we were home to hear it.

Third, our Youth Minister, Derek Wall preached a wonderful sermon in the absence of our pastor, Bro. Bob Adams.  We’ve listened to Derek preach many times and have enjoyed seeing him grow in his ability to preach God’s word.

After church we went to our favorite seafood store, B & J Seafood, in Hammond where we got 10 pound of crawfish and boiled potatoes.  This is the time of year when it’s really nice to be in Louisiana because seafood, especially crawfish, is a great price.  $1.99 a pound when you get 10 or more pounds and we did!

Roy spent yesterday (before and after the fishing fun) connecting a television outside to the bedroom inside television and a television mount for the outside television so we can enjoy TV outside.  We really think that watching Saints games outside with family might be a thing in our future!

06.25.14 Crystal Meth – yes that’s what today’s blog post is about.

I was very touched by the openness and accuracy of this young lady’s poem/story about her journey with Crystal Meth.   The far reaching effects of a meth user’s addiction are so deep that I believe everyone should be well aware of this horrible drug.  Not only do houses blow up but lives are destroyed when this drug and/or cooking of this drug enters your household or life.

“I AM METH”
This was written by a young girl *Micki) who was in jail for drug charges, and was addicted to meth. She wrote this while in jail. As you will soon read, she fully grasped the horrors of the drug, as she tells in this simple, yet profound poem. She was released from jail, but, true to her story, the drug owned her.

They found her dead not long after, with the needle still in her arm….

Please understand, this thing is worse than any of us realize…

My Name Is “Meth”
I destroy homes, I tear families apart, take your children, and that’s just the start.
I’m more costly than diamonds, more precious than gold,
The sorrow I bring is a sight to behold.
If you need me, remember I’m easily found,
I live all around you – in schools and in town.
I live with the rich; I live with the poor,
I live down the street, and maybe next door.
I’m made in a lab, but not like you think,
I can be made under the kitchen sink.
In your child’s closet, and even in the woods,
If this scares you to death, well it certainly should.
I have many names, but there’s one you know best,
I’m sure you’ve heard of me, my name is crystal meth.
My power is awesome; try me you’ll see,
But if you do, you may never break free.
Just try me once and I might let you go,
But try me twice, and I’ll own your soul.
When I possess you, you’ll steal and you’ll lie,
You do what you have to — just to get high.
The crimes you’ll commit for my narcotic charms
Will be worth the pleasure you’ll feel in your arms,
your lungs your nose.
You’ll lie to your mother; you’ll steal from your dad,
When you see their tears, you should feel sad.
But you’ll forget your morals and how you were raised,
I’ll be your conscience, I’ll teach you my ways.
I take kids from parents, and parents from kids,
I turn people from God, and separate friends.
I’ll take everything from you, your looks and your pride,
I’ll be with you always — right by your side.
You’ll give up everything – your family, your home,
Your friends, your money, then you’ll be alone.
I’ll take and take, till you have nothing more to give,
When I’m finished with you, you’ll be lucky to live.
If you try me be warned – this is no game,
If given the chance, I’ll drive you insane.
I’ll ravish your body, I’ll control your mind,
I’ll own you completely, your soul will be mine.
The nightmares I’ll give you while lying in bed,
The voices you’ll hear, from inside your head.
The sweats, the shakes, the visions you’ll see,
I want you to know, these are all gifts from me.
But then it’s too late, and you’ll know in your heart,
That you are mine, and we shall not part.
You’ll regret that you tried me, they always do,
But you came to me, not I to you.
You knew this would happen, many times you were told,
But you challenged my power, and chose to be bold.
You could have said no, and just walked away,
If you could live that day over, now what would you say?
I’ll be your master, you will be my slave,
I’ll even go with you, when you go to your grave.
Now that you have met me, what will you do?
Will you try me or not? It’s all up to you.
I can bring you more misery than words can tell,
Come take my hand, let me lead you to hell.

If you care enough, please forward this profound poem and share the deadly outcome of this drug that is killing our young kids young and old…
please look at my picture what it did to me!!!

When I was trying to find out about crystal meth I had to go to several different sources, so I hope having this here in one place might be helpful to someone.

Crystal meth signs and symptoms are often related to the drug’s impact on the body as a function of its stimulant nature. A single sign may not determine an addiction, but several signs seen over a short period of time can mean an addiction. Signs to look for to see if someone you love  or someone you know is using meth and hiding it from you include:

  • Dilated pupils
  • Weight loss
  • Eye twitching
  • Loss of appetite
  • Repetitious behavior
  • Hyperactivity

People with an addiction to methamphetamine can also stay up for days at a time followed by an extreme crash, where they sleep for long periods. They can also go into a manic phase, where they have compulsive and obsessive needs for cleaning. I believe that secretive activities and them freaking out when you show up at their house unexpectedly are big signs that need to be looked into. Those addicted to crystal meth for an extended period may show signs of extreme weight loss, seizures, rotted teeth and sores on the mouth and face.

Some of the ingredients commonly used in cooking meth include (but not limited to because I certainly don’t want to be providing a grocery list to some addict for what they need)

muriatic acid
Lye Ephedrine
decongestant pills like sudafed
battery acid
drain cleaner
lantern fuel
antifreeze

Here’s some images showing what meth looks like when it’s crystallized.  Sometimes they color it to disguise it but if its basic form looks like this don’t be fooled.

The most important thing is not to be in denial that someone you love or know could be doing this.  That doesn’t mean however that you should go on a witch hunt trying to find someone doing it.   If someone who knows them well shares their concerns about possible use PAY ATTENTION.   There’s probably a lot more information available but this is just one blog post and I’ve covered all I know.

I know this hasn’t been the most positive, inspiring blog I’ve ever written but I felt compelled to do so.  Next blog will be about our wonderful road trip to Walters Peach Town last Friday.

Roy started his job yesterday and now works 10 hours a day, 4 days a week for the next 3 months. We’ve been very busy lately and it doesn’t look like it’ll be slowing down any time soon.

I was very blessed to be able to go to choir practice last Sunday night for the first time in many years.  My asthma got so bad that I couldn’t sing in the choir any more because it required repetitive singing which wore out my lungs.  I’m thinking that singing for just 3 months won’t do me in so I’m going for it.

It was a joy to sing with my friends in the choir during practice and I can’t wait to sing praises to our Lord Sunday morning when we sing Indescribable (Chris Tomlin’s song).  Some of the lyrics are:

From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea
Creation’s revealing Your majesty
From the colors of fall to the fragrance of spring
Every creature unique in the song that it sings
All exclaiming

Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky and You know them by name.
You are amazing God
All powerful, untameable,
Awestruck we fall to our knees as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing God

Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night
None can fathom

Please catch on right away that I will probably write about each and every special we sing while I’m home.  Christian music sung by a Christian choir is uncomparable in the message it shares and I love it with my whole heart just like I love God with my whole heart.

From crystal meth to God – wow!  He’s really the ONLY place to turn when you want to get away from drugs of any kind! Now that we’re switched to a little lighter note, I’ll close.
