10.08.13 Field of Dreams, Dyersville, Iowa – 02.07.20 New Field of Dreams

MLB announcedlast week that the White Sox will host the Yankees in a “Field of Dreams” game in August of 2020. The game will take place in the new stadium built next to the iconic field from the movie. There will be 8,000 seats and fans will get to the new park through the cornfields around the original field where the movie was filmed. It seems like this is going to be one game only between the Yankees and the White Sox. I can’t wait to hear more information on this.

Roy and I were there in October of 2013 and LOVED IT!!  We recently ordered two canvas arts showing two great moments we had there. They are now on our living room wall next to our TV. I love that we are decorating the walls of our home with reminders of the precious memories we have from our six years living on the road. We just ordered three canvas arts with pictures we took at the Grand Canyon for our bedroom wall! I’m really looking forward to receiving those!

Back in October of 2013 when we visited Iowa I wrote the blog post below.

The original blog post from 10.08.13 Field of Dreams, Dyersville, Iowa – Both of our sons played baseball and softball growing up,  We had a baseball field in our side yard on Hinson Road, and we loved the movie Field of Dreams.

Betcha can’t guess where we went today!!!! That’s right, to the site of the Field of Dreams movie in Dyersville, Iowa. Roy played some ball with others including an older man dressed in an old-timey baseball uniform like they wore in the movie.

We went into the cornfields and out and in and out. I’m sure we looked like silly children and maybe we were today! It’s all still exactly like it was in the movie with the exception of a souvenir stand they added.

The family who has owned the property for years just sold it and we understand the new owners plan to add more ball fields so I’m glad we got to see it in its original form. The weather was perfect and there was a nice breeze.

Anyone who loves baseball or the movie should try to make it here to see it. The admission is free!

This was a very cool moment for us walking out of the corn!

Looking out from inside the rows of corn!fod8 fod9 fod10 fod11We’re on our way to Chicago now. We really loved the beauty and farmland of Iowa. The Mississippi River is the dividing line between Iowa and Illinois. After as much flat land as we saw on the Iowa side, it immediately became hilly and even mountainous on the Illinois side of the river. The Mississippi River here was way bigger than it was at the headwaters up in Itasca, MN but not nearly like it is in New Orleans. There was a pretty beach with a boat launch on the Illinois side of the river. At first, we saw no cornfields but now that we’re further into the state they are everywhere here too. We hope to pull into Chicago before dark. We couldn’t find an RV park that we could afford within 2 hours of Chicago so we’re heading to our old tried but true Wal-Mart. We’ve pulled off the road at a rest stop for Roy to take a little nap since we’re going pretty far today and he did play baseball earlier!  We have some tentative plans for what we’ll do in Chicago so stay tuned for the next installment of our travels!

Ya’ll come back now, ya’ hear!

Currently, it was one of those times when we were both as happy as two little kids can be. Of all the places I’d love to go back to this is at the top of the list.  I’d want both of our sons’ families to join us. I can just imagine how much fun that would be seeing both boys hitting home runs out into the cornfield! Oh, how much fun our youth baseball time was! If you have a love for baseball this Field of Dreams is a definite on any bucket list!

I am actually crawling under the fence here but today we’re going to say I’m hunting for Easter eggs!

At Easter our family honors the death and RESURRECTION (Amen!) of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  Today’s silly Easter photos and video are not meant to take the place of the reality of Easter.  Just wanted to share these to bring some smiles to your face and hopefully your heart from this Wacky Wonderful Thursday edition! Be true to yourself. Do what makes you happy. Be with who makes you smile. Laugh as much as you breathe. Love as long as you live. Say what you need to say. Offer a helping hand when you’re able. Appreciate all the things you do have. Smile. Celebrate your small victories. Learn from your mistakes. Realize that everything is a lesson in disguise. Forgive. And let go of the things you can’t control. And let God lead you each and every day.  Peaceful Moments for Women

ONE PAIR OF HANDS

Lyrics
O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy Hands have made
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder
Thy power throughout the universe displayed
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
And when I think of God, His Son not sparing
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in
That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing
He bled and died to take away my sin
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation
And lead me home, what joy shall fill my heart
Then I shall bow with humble adoration
And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art
Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee
How great Thou art, how great Thou art

A lot of people like this picture. So I wanted to take a minute to tell the story. Milton West was my childhood next door neighbor. I knew him as Mr. Chip. He retired from DOW chemical as an operator. He has always been there for me since I was two years old. Growing up without a father was always difficult for me. But the good lord surrounded me with great men, Mr.Chip was one of them. He constantly preached the value of an education, taught me how to take care of a yard, he taught me to see people for who they are not what they look like, he taught me how to treat my mother like a saint and many other life lessons. His contributions to me becoming a good son ,man and father were huge.

I am forever grateful for God putting him in my life.

So this past May my wife and I had a little boy named Bob Wayne Shugart. When Mr. Chip and his wife Shirley saw him they fell in love with him. They babysit him sometimes and we go and visit when we can. The last time we were over there Mr. Chip said he wants to be called “POP”. He says that’s his grandson. So we had to come up with a name for his wife. We decided on Lolli!!!!

So we tell Bob Wayne we are going to see Lolli Pop!!! I’m grateful that Lolli and Pop will be apart of my sons life. If he learns half the things from Mr . Chip as I did he will become a great son, man and father.

Everyday I read something negative and how race relations are worse than ever. I disagree and I hope this is a positive loving message to many people. This is just one story in little ol Victoria , Texas. I m sure there are millions of similar stories across the United States.

Peaceful Moments for Women shared Cody Shugart’s post

I LOVED THIS ONE, HOPE YOU WILL TOO!

Some Things I Learned About Alzheimer’s

04.14.18 Wacky Wonderful Saturday

THE TRAIN by John MacDonald

At birth we boarded the train and met our parents, and we believe they will always travel by our side.

As time goes by, other people will board the train; and they will be significant i.e. our siblings, friends, children, and even the love of your life.

However, at some station our parents will step down from the train, leaving us on this journey alone.

Others will step down over time and leave a permanent vacuum.

Some, however, will go so unnoticed that we don’t realize they vacated their seats.

This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy, expectations, hellos, goodbyes, and farewells.

Success consists of having a good relationship with all passengers requiring that we give the best of ourselves.

The mystery to everyone is: We do not know at which station we ourselves will step down.

So, we must live in the best way, love, forgive, and offer the best of who we are.

It is important to do this because when the time comes for us to step down and leave our seat empty we should leave behind beautiful memories for those who will continue to travel on the train of life.

I wish you all a joyful journey.

This section is new to our blog.  I love Christian music.  A friend of mine, Nancy Duvic, began sharing a graphic each Sunday of the title or words from a Christian song.  Sometimes it’s a hymn and sometimes a contemporary song.  I love that she does this because it starts my mind early on a Sunday singing the song, helping my human self concentrate on God.  I hope you all will enjoy these each week on whatever day I publish the blog!

This song is by Terry Butler and appears on the compilation 25 Top Vineyard Worship Songs: The River Is Here (2002).

LYRICS

May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to You, pleasing to You
May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to You my God

May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to You, pleasing to You
May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to You my God

You’re my rock and my Redeemer
You’re the reason that I sing
I desire to be a blessing
In your eyes
Every hour, every moment
Lord I want to be Your servant
I desire to be a blessing
In Your eyes
In Your eyes

May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to You, pleasing to You
May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to You my God

You’re my rock and my Redeemer
You’re the reason that I sing
I desire to be a blessing
In Your eyes
Every hour, every moment
Lord I want to be Your servant
I desire to be a blessing
In Your eyes
In Your eyes

You’re my rock and my Redeemer
You’re the reason that I sing
I desire to be a blessing
In your eyes
In Your eyes
Every hour, every moment
Lord I want to be Your servant
I desire to be a blessing
In Your eyes
In Your eyes

May the words of my mouth
And the meditations of my heart
Be pleasing to You my God

The words of the music that goes along with this are in a foreign language.  If it turns out they are saying something offensive, I am most sorry!  The doggies were just too cute to pass up!

The Unkind Person in Your Life, By Nylse Esahc

“Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving each other, just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.” – Ephesians 4:32

Hurt happens. It happens to all of us, often when we do not anticipate it. It happens in families, it happens in friendships, it happens with co-workers, and we even hurt ourselves. The most confusing kind of hurt, though, is the hurt that happens for seemingly no reason.

Maybe for you it’s the customer service person who’s supposed to be helping you out but keeps making everything more difficult with their attitude. This scenario rubs you the wrong way every time. You assume that kindness is a part of their job description without considering why they may be behaving rudely in the moment.

Or maybe you’re dealing with an acquaintance who is constantly inconsiderate to your kind gestures. They disregard your feelings when you express them and say that you are “sensitive” without trying to hear you out. You do not understand their lack of effort to change, especially since you’ve vulnerably expressed your concerns. As we interact with people in relationships we expect them to be as invested as we are in the relationship without considering that they might not value the relationship in the same sense that we do.

💙When I say ‘I can’t take any more’ God says, ‘find your strength in Me.’
When I say ‘I don’t know how to move forward’ God says ‘let Me lead the way.’
When I say ‘I feel so broken right now’ God says, ‘let Me heal you.’
When I say ‘I am so depressed right now’ God says, ‘let Me bring joy into your heart.’
Let God’s strength, leadership, healing and joy be the light you see💙💙

YOUR TIME HERE IS SHORT, By Ann Voskamp

Image may contain: text…it’s going to be okay: You don’t have to race when you already have a Rescuer. You are never truly time-starved when you are truly God-full.
Realizing how your time here is short —
paradoxically expands how you use your time.
May we be more interested in turning our time into prayer than our time into money.
May we be more interested in pressing into God than impressing others.
May we be more interested in communion with Christ than climbing success ladders in the world.
Because God never comes in ways to impress us — as much as He comes to make ways for us to have intimacy with Him.
And — it’s kinda crazy beautiful how it works:
When you want to be loved —
go be love.

Roy and I love to sing along with songs while we are driving. Rarely do we know the exact words and most of the fun is coming up with whatever we can to sing it! This couple singing just hit me as soo cute. I even like the lady’s part that says “Hot Damn”!! When my brain really fades this is a song I’m sure will put a smile on my face. Has to be these two folks okay??
